Ümit Kocasakal, President of the Istanbul Bar Association, was born in Cologne in 1966. In 1986, he graduated from Galatasaray High School, and in 1990, he earned his law degree from Istanbul University. Throughout his time at the university, he additionally worked as a student representative. He was interested in theater during his high school years and performed in ten plays at universities.
Following graduation, Ümit Kocasakal briefly practiced law before beginning work as a Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law Assistant at Galatasaray University in 1995. Ümit Kocasakal is one of the attorneys listed with the Istanbul Bar Association. He completed his legal internship with Professor Doctor Köksal Bayraktar. At the Eighth Corps Command, he served as a military prosecutor during his time in the service.
He earned his doctorate in 2000 with a thesis on Money Laundering Crime, and in 2005, he was given the title of associate professor for his work on Principles of EU Criminal Law. He also instructed students while attending numerous universities’ courses. He has written numerous articles that have been published. He is a professor and the director of the Criminal and Criminal Law Department at Galatasaray University’s Faculty of Law.
He was chosen in 2010 to serve as the Istanbul Bar Association’s president. He continued his duties after being elected president between 2012 and 2014 in the ensuing years. Ümit Kocasakal is bilingual in French. One of the successful attorneys, Kocasakal, is still an active professor.
In 2000, he moved into the world house with Hatice zdemir. His wife is a lawyer, just like him. He has two youngsters.
With the articles he wrote and published, Ümit Kocasakal helped create a number of legal innovations. He published legal articles in numerous journals and print media. He has served as president for three terms and is still actively employed.
